What Superscreen records stays on your Mac. This is the short list of what the account side of the service stores, why, and how to get rid of it.
Last updated 25 August 2026
Your recordings never reach us
Capture, encoding, editing and export all happen on your Mac. There is no upload step, no cloud render queue and no copy of your recording on a server, because there is no server involved in making one.
That includes the parts people assume must be remote. Captions are transcribed by the speech model built into macOS, on the device, so the audio is never sent anywhere to be turned into text.
- No recording, frame, screenshot or audio track is transmitted to us
- No file names, window titles or application names are collected
- The app does not phone home with what you captured, or when
What the account side stores
Buying a licence creates an account, and that account is deliberately thin. It exists to answer one question: is this licence valid, and on how many Macs.
- Your email address, which is also how you sign in
- Sign-in codes and session tokens, stored only as hashes, never in a form we can read back
- Your licence key, its plan and its status
- One row per activated Mac, holding a device name and an identifier, so a seat limit can be counted
- One row per Mac and network per day, holding a one-way hash of the network rather than the address itself, which is the only thing the sharing check reads
Payments
Checkout is handled by Polar, our merchant of record. Card details are entered on their side and never touch this site — we receive the order and subscription identifiers, the plan, and the email address used to buy.
Polar processes that payment under their own privacy terms, and issues the invoice.
We send two kinds of email: the six-digit code you use to sign in, and the message containing your licence key after a purchase. They are delivered through Resend. There is no newsletter, and no marketing list you have to get off.
Cookies and analytics
One cookie, set after you sign in, holding a session token so the account page knows it is you. It is removed when you sign out.
There are no advertising cookies, no cross-site trackers and no third-party analytics profiles built from your visit.
How long any of it is kept
Sign-in codes expire within minutes and are deleted once used. Sessions expire on their own and are removed when you sign out.
Licence and order records are kept for as long as the licence exists, and afterwards for as long as tax and accounting rules require us to keep proof of a sale.
What you can ask for
Write to us and we will send you a copy of everything the account holds about you, correct anything that is wrong, or delete the account entirely. Deleting it ends any active licence on it, so it is worth cancelling a subscription first.
You can deactivate a Mac yourself at any time from the account page, without asking anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we store or why, the date at the top of this page changes with it, and anyone with an account is emailed before it takes effect.
Questions about any of this go to support@superscreen.app, and a person answers them.
