Superscreen vs CleanShot X.
The best screenshot app on the Mac, with recording attached. Quick captures, quick annotations, quick links.

The honest read
Where CleanShot X is the better answer, and where it is not.
What CleanShot X does well
- Screenshots, scrolling capture and annotation are excellent and instant.
- One payment for the app, with a cloud add-on only if you want the links.
- It stays out of the way and starts capturing before you have finished thinking about it.
Where it runs out of road
- Video is the second job. There is no timeline, no camera bubble and no captions.
- Editing a recording means trimming it and little else.
- No assets, no keystroke overlay, no cursor-following zoom.
Keep CleanShot X for stills — nothing here replaces it. When the capture is a video rather than a picture, Superscreen picks up where it stops: camera, audio tracks, a timeline, captions and exports.
