The honest read

Where Loom is the better answer, and where it is not.

What Loom does well

  • The link is the product. Nothing to export, nothing to upload, and the person you sent it to can reply on the timeline.
  • Transcripts, summaries and viewer analytics come with the account rather than the app.
  • Everyone on the team sees the same library, on any machine, without moving files around.

Where it runs out of road

  • It needs an account, and the recording lives on their servers rather than on your disk.
  • The free tier caps you at short videos and a fixed number of them.
  • You get a download, not a master. There is no local .mov at full quality to hand to an editor.
  • The editing is trims and stitches in a browser tab, not a timeline with assets on it.

If the recording exists to be watched once by three colleagues, Loom is hard to beat and Superscreen is not trying to. If the recording is a file you keep, edit and publish somewhere else, a local recorder is the right shape.
