The honest read

Where ScreenFlow is the better answer, and where it is not.

What ScreenFlow does well

  • A real timeline: multiple tracks, callouts, transitions, chroma key, the lot.
  • Captions, annotations and keystroke callouts are all built in.
  • One payment gets you a version you own outright.

Where it runs out of road

  • It is a heavy application, and it feels like one from launch to export.
  • Each major version is a paid upgrade rather than an update.
  • Recording quickly is not what it is for — you open a project first.

If you are cutting a course, ScreenFlow is more editor than Superscreen will ever be, and that is the right trade. If you press record several times a day and want the file finished a minute later, the weight is the whole problem.
